T in the Park 2010 – review’d

T in the Park might have been going and growing for over a decade, but it hasn’t lost its electric atmosphere. It doesn’t seem to matter what the weather does, the choice of acts and the Scottish banter makes it something special. This year was no exception and we were glad we made the 5pm dash from the office to catch the Black Eyed Peas and Muse on Friday, followed by some hat-nabbing on the dodgems (which was funny until my accomplice started throwing them away, forcing a sharp exit when they stopped – apologies to anyone who lost some headgear).

Saturday was wellies vs. muddy converse as the rain tried to dampen spirits. It didn’t succeed of course and a dose of Diana Vickers in a jump suit perked up everyone and seemed to impress the boys, especially when she started playing her trumpet called Tony. The sky brightened as Vampire Weekend played a blindingly beautiful set and after a similar performance at Rock Ness have convinced me they are the festival act of the summer. Homegrown talent and now TITP regular Paolo Nutini delivered as always, with his cheeky smile and latest cover, Time to Pretend from MGMT – we even saw him signing autographs and posing for photos with some fans afterwards – what a nice boy.

Choosing what headliner to see on Saturday night was dividing, Prodigy, Eminem or Mumford and Sons? The result was division amongst the ranks. I opted for a bit of Eminem followed by Mumford, but the presence Eminem and D12 had on stage was so immense I couldn’t even think about leaving – it felt like a completely new level of headliner. Feedback afterwards was Mumford and Sons were also amazing, Prodigy were OK and everyone who saw Eminem was completely blown away.

The wind blew on Sunday making it a cold start, but it did its job and cleared the sky to let through some sunshine, thank God. Dizze Rascal had the crowd going bonkers and completely outshone Jay-Z in the hip hop department. Biffy Clyro revved up thehome crowd and got everyone to help ensure the only band member who wasn’t half naked took his top off. Kasabian were good for the hits, but didn’t really feel like a headliner after the clout of Eminem on Saturday.

Another truly awesome weekend, thank you T in the Park 2010 and thank you everyone who was there, TITP must have one of the friendliest, liveliest festival crowds there is. Roll on 2011 – Early Bird tickets on sale tomorrow morning at http://www.tinthepark.com
