What’s this all about then?
Leith Records is a distribution channel for brand new Scottish music, curated by The Leith Agency, with the collaboration and generous contribution of bands, musicians, listeners and jive-talking music heids. It’s not actually a record label, and doesn’t make records, but it does strive to share and support the best of Scottish tunage.
What’s in it for bands?
Through a precise scientific algorithm of creative choosing yet to be fully confirmed, we’re donating album and poster design, music video storyboarding, album launch events and even the chance to be featured in TV ads created by Leith. More on this very shortly…
What’s in it for listeners?
We do our very best to seek out and supply the choicest tunes, the gnarliest beats and the freshest new musical talent in Scotland. Who wouldn’t want a daily serving of such musical goodness conveniently hand-delivered via the intervibes direct to your email, Facebook, Twitter, and RSS reader of choice.
We also put on the occasional live showcase of bands featured on the site, and regular listeners and contributors will get first dibs on invites.
How do I submit a band or track?
Leith Records relies on contributions from bands, promoters and listeners, so please feel free to send us your choons.
The easiest way to submit something is to upload the track to Soundcloud, then drop the link in the comments below, along with around 100 entertaining words and some links to your MySpace, Facebook and Twitter shenanigans.
Do you actually publish music like a real record label?
Not really. But we’ve cobbled together a super sounding Ten Tracks bundle, featuring ten of Scotland’s finest new acts, available to download for a measly quid.
Are there real people behind this, or just music-powered super-computers?
Leith Records is held together by Claire Paterson, Kenny Nicholson, Jim Wolff, Mikey Kinlan, Chris Scott and Kirsty Cameron, with some much-appreciated support and inspiration from The Leither, LeithFM, TenTracks, Banana Row, Fredag and Jimi Hendrix.
What else does The Leith Agency do?
The Leith Agency is best known for doing iconic adverts for IRN-BRU, Grolsch and Tennents and is still very much an advertising and content creation agency. If you’re keen on getting in touch, you can reach us via normal channels.
Spread the bird!
Don’t forget, if you like what you hear and see, please tell your buddies on social network thingies.
Is Leith Records really the future of music?
No. You are the future of music. Amen.

Hey ho,
We’d be much obliged if you’d make your way over to http://www.myspace.com/curatorsmusic for a wee listen!
Here comes the science bit…concentrate…
Curators formed in Edinburgh from the ashes of various bands in late 2008.
They wrote and rehearsed furiously before playing with Wintersleep, Dinosaur Pile-Up, Little Comets and The Primitives among others, winning great reviews and support from Is This Music?, Jim Gellatly, Vic Galloway and various blogs, as well as airplay across the country, including Radio 1.
Buoyed by their success, the band holed themselves up at Tape Studio in Leith in December of 2009 to begin working on their debut album with Stephen Watkins (The Acute, Cry Over Billionaires, Amanda Palmer, Dead Boy Robotics, The Vaselines, Broken Records etc). Regularly recording into the early hours of the morning, the songs were tracked live and then honed through hours of hard work as the band fought to balance their work with their blossoming new record.
Eight months later, the band have emerged with Is This A Private Fight?, a record bursting with ten noisy pop songs about conflict, love, belief, anger, disappointment and optimism that are uniquely Scottish but also universal, without ever sounding contrived. Thanks for listening.
“Anthemic stadium rock” – Vic Galloway, Radio 1
“Perfectly executed guitar tunes big on anthemic choruses and catchy hooks” – Is This Music?
“Anthemic, no-nonsense indie rock” – Kowalskiy

We are an Electroindie band from Leith.
Over the last few months we have written and produced our debut album which is now at the finishing touches stage and will be released in the autumn after our debut single “Memoirs”.
On May 27th 2010 we performed live at the Xile Launch Party at Club Milan, Glasgow. We showcased a selection of tracks from our debut album which we’ve now been told that we “BLEW THE F***IN ROOF OFF THE PLACE” nice.
We’re now very hungry to bring our sound to the people so, if you feel your roof needs replaced, book us.
regards

hi there,
My soundcloud track Deep Song was played on Vic Galloway’s Radio Scotland show this week – - he rated it as ‘…a future national anthem, we reckon…a brilliant track”

live show at Roxy Arthouse, 26th June – “Is This A Test?” audio-visual night.
“…stylish, elegant and sinister…obscure electronica, minimal beats and exotic voice merge seamlessly with animated visuals to evolve into a multi-media artwork” ( New Zealand Heraald)
4 track EP and DVD out on 4th July – “songs from No Man’s Land”
cheers,
Fiona
Skeletal, off-world electronica and visuals collide in the spaces between dreaming and waking… alien lullabies…
Hi guys
Just found out about you via Music News Scotland – living in Leith myself it was great to see you doing something great for Scottish music. We are a new rock band THIRTEENSEVEN and have released and gigged our first album ILLUMINATED (on itunes, hmv etc). We’re currently finishing our new set and looking forward to getting back out for more live stuff. Check out our myspace – hope you enjoy!
Cheers
Kenny
‘Beautiful By Design’ began long before they realised they were a band as they would often find themselves the last ones awake at house party’s, swigging on cheap cider talking about the music they grew up with, and what they felt were the important factors in making a good song. Opinions would differ but one thing they always agreed on was the fact that a good song should order the hairs on the back of your neck to stand to attention. then pierce your skin to rattle your very bones and leave you in a state of addiction. This common ground has given birth to an urgent heart on sleeve monster of a band, with sensitive lyrics cradled like a child by the strong pulsating beats and swirly melodic guitar riffs.
Thanks for your comments guys. We’ve just shifted websites so the nuts and bolts still need tightening.
If you want to submit a track for posting, best thing to do is add it to Soundcloud, then drop the link and some blurb in the comments here.
Mind you, we’re super stacked with MTB World Cup comp and the Batter of the Bands event so prob won’t be back to posting daily tracks til end of June. Submit away though!
