Batter of the Bands – June 17th

Stick this date in your fancy gig planner. Five top-of-the-range Scottish bands have been carefully selected to play a one-off Leith Festival gig, all in the name pure unadulterated musical pleasure, with all profits going to the charity Fairbridge.
There’ll be a tasty serving of electro pop outfit Futuristic Retro Champions, grundie Glasgow rockers Schnapps, popular local boys Jakil and Little Eskimos with their indie treats, plus Leith’s own brutal beef poppers The Fusiliers. There’s a little something for everyone and it’s all under one roof, at Studio128 on Pitt St in Leith, Edinburgh on Thursday 17th of June.
The event is more than a smorgasbord of music, it’s a chance for one of the bands to win an exciting band package, including some creative work from the Leith Agency, a run of CDs from Cameron Presentations, a week’s recording time courtesy of Rage Music and a fish supper (to share).
Look out for other deep fried antics in the run up to the event – we’ll be roping the bands into playing a series of mini gigs in chippies around Leith, which we’ll upload onto the Leith Records site.

Great entertainment, well organised, fantastic venue……a bit disappointed by the voting system. Not sure the winning band was the best of the bunch….but hey ho :)
Thanks for a great night in an unusually cool venue! All the bands were great but I think Schnapps deserved to win and I’m glad they did. Feedback wise i’d say it was well organised, friendly and the bar was a great success – the pricing/charity giving was a nice touch.
The ONLY thing that let it down was that the sound guy was too inexperienced and it was difficult to hear the vocals of any of the bands.
