Play Downhill Rock ‘n’ Roll – Live!
Leith Records loves a bit of downhill action so we’re pleased to announce a sweet competition for a band to play at this year’s world famous Mountain Bike World Cup, which is expecting crowds of 8-10k people each day.
The Fort William round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup series is renowned for its enthusiastic, up for it crowds. It’s non-stop action, with the Downhill and 4-Cross delivering amazing skill and speed on the slopes of Aonach Mor, the UK’s 9th highest mountain. Fort William, in the Scottish Highlands is home to some of the longest and toughest courses in the world and the event features some of the best Downhill and 4-Cross riders in the world.
Thousands of spectators will gather to cheer on the riders, nicknamed the ‘Gravity Gods’, as they prepare to battle it out on the slopes of Aonach Mor. If you’re in a band (or know someone who is) and want to be in with a chance to play at the event, plus get passes, accommodation and expenses for the weekend, drop us a link to a video of you performing in the comments section below, along with a bio of 50 words or less, contact and any social network stuff you’re on (MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, etc). The deadline for entries is midnight on Wednesday 12th May so you don’t have long!

If only! Maybe next year ;)
would be a great gig if all three of the top voted bands got to play!
@dont lie – yup, you’re right there, but it had no sway in who got through, or how many votes they’ve received. Cheers!
@kirstyc but some1 that works 4 leith Agency does!
@is it not so says – hello, just to let you know that there are 6 of us who have the pleasure of working on Leith Records, and none of us have even met Culann, let alone know them. Just wanted to clear that up for y’all!
1 of the guys that works at Leith Records is good friends with a guy in culann, fyi
@Pete – As already explained, the comments and star ratings have helped the judging panel reach the shortlist, but weren’t the only criteria. Sometimes the star ratings and comments are open to abuse, so we’ve only been using them as guidelines. Ultimately the organisers of the MBWC had the final say.
Cheers for your comments though and, I hope you’ll still come and visit Leith Records!
I bet they never even listened to Jiezuberband or any of the other “superior” acts. The shortlist sniffs of backdoor dealings.
‘Mon the Jakil boys. Yo’ve got yer 2,500 strnog Facebook team behind ya ;)
Surprised to see Jakil have 0 votes half an hour ago and now they have 81? Hmmm. Bouncing around the uni labs maybe
I was pretty surprised to see a band as well known as Riot:Noise entering this compeition, but I was even more surprised that they didn’t make the shortlist! Even the guys from MBUK were backing em…..
Yes I am biased cause I love the band, but seriously…. quality control!!!

But thanks for your comment – unfortunately we can’t put everyone on stage!
Interesting that 10:04s got to the shortlist even though they had no comments or votes on their entry – oh well, I suppose they’re contacts must’ve had a word
Indie rock is killing our music scene!!
Jiezuberband will do the festival proud. Get them on the bill!

‘The Bang’ are an indie/rock band from Fife.
We have a great blend of youthful enthusiasm and experience. We always deliver energetic, entertaining live performances and, with a talented female drummer and three writers in the band, we always maintain interest with our varied song styles, whilst maintaining our distinctive band sound.
We draw our influences from all bands and other recording artists that have had the balls to be truly original and follow their own musical path.
As well as gigging all over Scotland at the moment, we are also looking forward to new recordings, a summer tour of England and an autumn tour of Scandinavia.
The Bang are: Garry Downie, Stewart Black, John Dunleavey, Jamie Dunleavey.

GEAR Diary,
Today we came across a competition that we’d WHEELY BIKE to be in the FRAME for.
You see, our life had been going DOWNHILL recently and we’d been SADDLED with guilt. We began to TYRE, so we slammed the BRAKES on, SPOKE to Leith Records and they RALEIGHED around us and BYCYCALLY, asked us to CHAIN some words together for this Bio(CYCLE)…
Then we realised that we’d went over 50 (Words), but lets hope the Downhillers can handle(BAR) even faster than that…
THE ENDO ; )

A WEE BIOG
About Suspire:
Selected for RockNess and Edinburgh Festivals this year, and fresh from supporting Kurt Cobain & Sonic Youth’s favourite band, SHONEN KNIFE @ King Tut’s this week. Heading to San Francisco, Seattle & Vancouver for taster shows in August.
Suspire are pretty much family. They play music together; they live together. Independent in most of their music adventures, and pioneers of their own wee underground arts scene: One Creative Scotland.

Named after a pretty good film none of the band has ever seen, GOODBYE LENIN are half Scottish and a quarter English and Canadian. They utilize big guitar riffs, fuzzy bass, boy/girl harmonies and a smattering of feedback to achieve their unique live sound, which is both musically-interesting and radio-friendly. Musically taking their cues from bands such as the Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead and Arcade Fire, lyrically they focus on the sublime and cataclysmic: love, death, socialism, financial meltdown, atomic warfare and eco-catastrophe. The revolution starts here..
GOODBYE LENIN is FRANKIE LOWE, KIRSTY MCCONNELL, JOHN RHODES & JON LO

Death Trap City – alt. rock from Edinburgh.
The band was formed in Summer 2009. Since forming the band have played to audiences in venues all over Scotland in support of their debut E.P “The Enemy”, released later that year.
Not a band to rest on their laurels, Death Trap City are in the midst of planning a national tour Autumn 2010, in support of their debut single release on Wasted State records.
All 3 members experience and influences bring a variety of different textures to the outfit. With an emphasis on melody, jarring riffs, and with 3 distinctive voices leading the charge, the band is able to produce a huge sound belying a three piece.
